He was still hungry!

Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar is more than just a story about a worm with an endless appetite, it is an opportunity to feed your child’s vocabulary!  Vocabulary is one of the six early literacy skills children learn through reading, talking and listening.

Studies show that children who have been read to on a regular basis know around 20,000 words by the age of six, whereas children who aren’t read to know as few as 3,000 words at the same age.

As the caterpillar eats his way through each page, let your child point to and name each piece of food (I’m partial to the chocolate cake). For a sweet treat, visit the Centerville Library on March 18th to meet the caterpillar and enjoy a room full of Eric Carle crafts.

P.S. Don’t forget your camera for this one…it’s a wild night at the library when we’ve got a character in for a visit!
