In Mac Barnett’s adorably funny new book, Telephone, birds are playing an accidental game of telephone. It starts with Peter’s mom, who says: “Tell Peter: Fly home for dinner.” From there, it turns into: “Tell Peter: Hit pop flies and homers,” and “Tell Peter: Prop planes are for fliers.” Passed along from bird to bird, the message continues to morph into even sillier commands, until finally it makes its way to a very wise owl. He says: “Hey, Peter. Your mom says fly home for dinner.” Jen Corace’s illustrations are really cute, and the jumbled messages will surely crack up you and your little ones. It may even tempt you to play your own game of telephone when you’re done!
