How Do I Know Which Ones to Choose?!

With so many different books available for small children, it’s hard to know which ones are best. To some degree, that depends on your children and their special interests. Depending on the age of your children, though, there are certain books that are best-suited for their needs and abilities.

0-6 Months:

-Books with simple, large designs and bright colors or contrasting colors (like black and white books)

-Books that are sturdy and can be propped up in a crib

-Books that are made of cloth and vinyl, that can be washed or taken into the bathtub

-Books with people or familiar objects

6-12 Months:

-Sturdy board books that can withstand tugging and chewing

-Books with photos of family or other babies

-Books with familiar objects, like animals, balls, or bottles

-Books that are made of cloth and vinyl, that can be washed or taken into the bathtub

12-24 Months:

-Sturdy board books

-Books with only a few words on each page

-Books with pictures of familiar things, like other children or animals

-Bedtime books

-Rhyming books

2-3 Years:

-Simple rhyming books that can be memorized

-Books about numbers, letters, colors, and shapes

-Books about things they enjoy, like playtime, animals, or trucks

-Bedtime books

-Books about their favorite TV/movie characters
