Chameleon Sees Colors

Chameleon, who apparently has been living indoors his whole life, thinks the world is black and white. When the day finally comes for him to get a glimpse of the outside world, one by one he sees the different colors of the rainbow. Every other page is all black with white text and a small hole cut out of the page. Through that hole you can spy the new color that Chameleon is seeing. This book, Chameleon Sees Colors by Anita Bijsterbosch, is fun to read with little ones just learning colors. These brand-new color experts will undoubtedly love shouting out the name of each color that can be seen through Chameleon’s little window. If you’re looking for a unique color book to read to your toddler or preschooler, give this one a shot!

Mix It Up!

Press Here, by Herve Tullet, is one of my favorite interactive stories to read to kids. They get so excited to turn the page and see what their actions have done to change the yellow dot. It’s never failed to be a huge success at storytime. So, you can imagine my excitement to see that Tullet’s latest book is written in that same interactive style. Mix It Up! is a fun look at what happens when colors are mixed together in different ways. It’s an entertaining and educational book that will undoubtedly be an instant hit with your little one. You may even be inspired to get out some paint and try color-mixing yourselves!

Yellow Is My Color Star

If you’re working on colors with your little one, Judy Horacek’s new book, Yellow Is My Color Star, is one you’ll want to read. The narrator, who thinks yellow is the absolute best color of all, encourages the reader to decide on a favorite color, too. Each shade represented gets its own page on which everything is that particular color. There are also a couple of pages in which the names of the colors are actually written in that color, helping to show the relationship between the color and its written name. Finally, in case that’s not enticing enough, there’s rhyming text throughout. Since rhymes help kids to hear the smaller sounds in words, this is important for them as they try to break down the sounds in words when they learn to read.

So, if you’re looking for a color book that’s light, bright, and fun, this one is a great choice!
